Obligatory Biennial Bloomberg shot

Travis 4th of July Parade 2008, Staten Island NY.

Was all set for a good Bloomie pic this year, but my 105mm micro lens misfired on me, hunting for focus as it tends to at times, and by the time I'd wrangled control back he'd passed by and was looking the other way. (Since it's a macro lens, the focus ring extends 3/4 the way around the barrel)

So this'll have to do until next time...

    Sounds like my Nikkor 70-300mm...lol
I missed a few shots as it was "hunting for focus" too!
    Always next year...nice shot Andy,Happy 4th!

Thanks Gene, a happy 4th to you too! I switched my lens over to manual focus after this shot, with what I'd have to describe as mixed results. The middle of a once-a-year event is not really the best time to start experimenting :-)

Happy 4th of July Andy. This is a cool shot and for sure made more so by the guy reading the Blackberry!

I've had that same problem with my Nikkor 18-200. Depending on what's in the background, sometimes the manual override is the only option. Btw, that guy on the far left looks like Jesse The Body!

The same guy was still on his blackberry as he passed me by "My Cousin Vinny's".

Thanks for the link, James... I think all the news media was stationed further up Victory Blvd, near the start/end of the route. I stayed close to home, mostly to make sure our daughter wasn't too overwhelmed by the whole event. However next year I'll know where to position myself if I want to get on the TV :-)

Slight possibility that Vinny might've made it into the video, though!
