Rock Balance

Rock Balance by Andy Macdonald.
My first ever rock balance. I had been inspired to try this by photos I'd seen on Flickr. It looks impossible and one may think there is a trick to it but I found it relatively easy and quite quick to do. I tried to use rocks that were not too flat (which would be too easy) but you can find rounder ones with hidden crevices. It does get a bit wobbly when you get higher but if you work carefully you can use the weight of the rocks to find their own 'lock' points if they are not completely smooth. Just watch your feet if you use rocks this big. The 3rd one down is about 25cm long. I did a couple of others after this one and I'll upload them next.

It's the first time I tried it since seeing similar photos on flickr.
It is great fun and I will definitely be doing it again when I get chance.

Rocks find a balance as we hope in our life
with all types of edges as do some that give strife
some smoothed by weather or the rolling of sea
how to find the two pivots is an enigma to me
but somewhere sit the angles that are perfectly in tune
as these stones stand together as though forever were hewn
the lessons drawn in life as with patience we search
for the balance to this life that we precariously perch
