Stained Glass

Augustinian Priory in Adare, founded in 1315, restored in 1807.
To protect the old stained glass panes, from weathering and other less benign possibilities, a layer of plexiglas has been installed over the original panes.
Occasionally, when the light hits at the right angle, a reflected image can be seen in the plexiglas which is as striking as the old designs and reminiscent of their form

top of shot brought in the roof, prefered to stick to continuity of wall

agreed for the cropping, that vent has no place in this picture

I am a bit concerned about the angle. It would be more interesting to get a fontal view. I like the idea, though, to insert the branches of the tree into the window.

The vent and the angle rather spoil it, but I love the idea and the contrast between the reflection and the old stone:

Beautiful reflection! Agree that it would have been nice to see the top of the arch - I would have faved this picture. But overall a very creative shot!

Very nice, the only thing that really disturbes me is the composition. I would like to see some more space above the window and no disturbing thingie in the wall below the window.

    15. Sparkle~and~Fade (89 months ago | reply)

Great capture of reflection. If this has been cropped, I'd like to see more of the stonework around the window. I also agree with vintagedept about editing out the light or vents or whatever it is under the window. Increasing the saturation and toning down contrast might help to get rid off the blown out bit of sky in the reflection as well.

I like the branches crossing in the reflection. It follows the margin of the window, a naturally made artifact.

It's quite an amazing reflection but I think the window/ photo could have been framed/ cropped better. I don't like the vent at the bottom.

A cool shot and I like the replacing of the stained glass with the natural scenery as reflected, but the framing bothers me and the cullness of the stonework is off-putting for me.

Fab contrast between grey frame & blue sky. Gloomy leafless tree is perfect reflection to the medieval window.

Original and excellent photography, would you like to add for a competition it to Vidres-7

In "Vidres" we expose pictures in which the crystal is the obligatory actual element. Through it, we must see, reflected or in transparency, people or things. You can upload them in the mural - there is no single limit - and ONE in the thread of opened discussion, where it will enter the competition

I like the vibrancy of the reflection in this. It contrasts nicely with the greys of the stone. Is there more at the top of the window than there was in the print?

    47. beyond the pale (56 months ago | reply)

yeah - I think Harvey Norman chopped the top off in printing - didn't notice until at home :(
thinking now I could have left it as colour - not as much impact as B&W
      thanks for feedback

    48. Kevoto (56 months ago | reply)

That has happened me too. Now I make specific crops for the size I am printing to just to make sure that I have control over what gets chopped off.
