Dovercourt Lower Lighthouse

The disused lower lighthouse on the beach at Dovercourt next to Harwich in Essex, England.

The upper and lower lights at Dovercourt were built in 1863, decomissioned in 1917 and restored to encourage tourism in the 1980s. They acted as leading lights for ships steering towards Harwich harbour.

Beautiful shot. The lighthouse seems to be so fragile to resist to the waves

Gosh, this one is proving popular - thanks for all the faves, invitations and comments so far.

@Roarsthelion: Yes there's something special about making the effort to catch a dawn. I rather enjoy the anticipation of travelling to a point in time and space. The sun is going to come up on your chosen subject whether you get there in time or not. Its easier in the winter, but with a fair distance to cover, this one still needed a 5:00am start.

@Cherishlovespink: I should point out that the lighthouse isn't really pink. Its white with black legs: however this is very long exposure about an hour before dawn, so the red colour reflected by the lighthouse (and the ghosted out waves lapping around the groynes) is coming from street lamps in the town of Dovercourt.

Nice shot, but for me colours don't look natural, too neon and far too much in your face.
If I was walking on the beach and the sea looked that colour, I would head straight to the nearest Accident and Emergency Unit to get a brain scan.

Was this Photoshopped? Ease up on the saturation.

I think it would look much better as a monochrome image.

Sorry, love the shot but hate the colours.
