Mont Alto Pavillion Dome

When the Mont Alto Iron Furnace went out of business in 1893 the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania purchased the Mont Alto park and furnace lands,. It became Pennsylvania’s first state forest park in 1902. This photo is the underside of the roof of the former carousel which still stands on the grounds.

Abandoned RR_014

A remnant of the 1872 Chambersburg - Mont Alto Railroad. Passenger service ended 1933. Several Iron Railroad bridges that cross over Conococheague Creek survive, even if the rails do not.
