Christmas Shopping

Christmas Shopping by andreasnilsson1976.
I took my new (second hand) 70-210 / 2.8 lens out today for the first session. I couldn't imagine it would let that much light through. Together with the in camera built stabilisation it was no match to take indoor and dusk pictures. It is heavy (1,4 kg) and big and it makes people stare at me, but it is definitely worth it! It brings the camera to an other level.

yes, a 2.8 should let lots of light in!! and i'm glad you picked a long lens with image stablization... it's really critical, i can't hand-hold & get crisp focus with a long lens without it... my hands are too shakey (too much caffiene, i suppose). looks like you & your new lens friend are getting on nicely!

this is a really great image... it's the kind of shot that perfectly illustrates "christmas shopping" in my mind! (... except that in america, these walkways would be packed body-to-body with angry shoppers, instead of these calm, happy-looking swedish shoppers!) nice work :)

Thanks Katie for comment! I don't like shopping irl at all so I did most of it at home on internet. I mainly went to the mall to shoot with my new toy.

The point with my Sony camera is that the stabilization is in the camera body. I don't have to spend a huge pile of money on every lens; any lens will give me that feature. I paid 400 EUR (530 USD) for this lens (second hand). If I had chosen a canon or nikon body it would have cost me about 1200 EUR (1600 USD) to get such a lens with stabilization; and that would certainly not have been an option!

andreas: the stabilization on camera doesen't work as well as stabilization on lens... i've seen some of your shots and it are quite blurry... i have the sigma 70-210 f.2.8 too, but i use it with tripod or at very fast times. this pic is really nice:) feel free to watch my pics taken with the 70-210 f.2.8. bye

Thanks franzliv! Yes stabilization in the lens is better. But stabilization in the body is better than no stabilisation at all. This indoor picture was taken handheld with 1/25 sec and I'm not sure it would have been possible to take such a slow photo without stabilization. This picture is taken spontaneously in a staircase.
