Sweet. You know, I was just out today
visiting cemeteries looking for decent stuff
to shoot. Damned if I don't find this
awesome angel and the thing is *Covered* with
snails and cobwebs and spiders, and junebugs,
and pigeon poop and all kinds of shite. I
ask you; where the hell is this guy when you
need him?
Congratulations! This image is currently one
of Flickr's most interesting photos for 21
September 2006. (It is on page one of the
calendar view.) Would you please add it to
the Interestingness pool? It would be a great addition!
Tom, this is a great composition. But power
washing that relatively soft stone can't be
good for it. Ah, whatever.
Also, Frank, it is now more difficult for
people who have had many images in succession
rank high in interestingness to make the top
20. I just had my first top 20 picture a
couple days ago, and it took me a month of
400+ "first day" interestingness
images, many of which dropped to <20 after
three or four days, to get into Explore page
territory again.
Perhaps, Frank, if you took time to think
about the interestingness algorithm you
wouldn't make broad, false statements that
reflect your angst and embedded inferiority.
I`d really like to add some biting remark to
the whoring/no whoring effort discussion,
just because it made me laugh. But I can`t
think of anything relevant to say, so I`ll
just shut up. I guess some people should
think about that, too... One thing: This is one of THE photographing
opportunities. When did anyone ever see this
guy, let alone took a shot? And it takes a
great mind to realize at the time how great
this weird guy will look in b/w on the
Explore front page. Congrats, well deserved!
Funny, these discussions about
interestingness popping up on Flickr over
and over again. The latest algorithm I know
about, the chance of scoring high on
interestingness decreases if you submit to
more than about 5 pools. So the fact that
this pic is submitted to exactly 5 pools,
does that prove that andertho is no whore, or
that he is a cunning whore? Doesn't matter
much; Fact is that this is a fucking great
picture and oh damn I whish I would have
taken it.
Phew - made it! Now I'm too tired to scroll
back up to see who made the comment
"Grim Sweeper!!" Wish I'da said
that!!! lol
Great pic - but has it been messed with a
bit? Almost looks like it has
"pencil" effect or something.
Wonder if the guy gets paid per stone... or
per hour? I guess by the time he's finished
cleaning last one, the first one needs to be
cleaned again. I'm sure there must be some
deep meaning in that, but it's almost
quittin' time on a Fri. and brain is barely
functioning...
No alteration other than that I made it
b&w and upped the contrast a smidge.
@Corin:
No.
It was meant to convey the sense of
inevitablity that one day we all will die,
and then some guy in a long raincoat and
funny hat will powerwash our gravestone. You
really are PARANOID!!!!
I'm loving the photo and title andertho.
This guy definitely deserves a photo... and
consideration. I'd never considered that
someone had this responsibility, but I can
tell you that I respect him.

I'll bet that if you posted my pictures in your account they would get 5 times more views/favs etc.
I'm beginning to think that you've made some arrangement with Heather.

Wow Frank, your bitterness really is unfortunate.
Did it ever occur to you to wonder how dropping a photo in 5 groups equals being "an interestingness whore"?
Maybe it's just a photo that a lot of people like.
