Flummoxed dock

Note how some icons 'sit' right on their reflections and others don't :(
Flummoxed dock by And all that Malarkey.
Somehow my Leopard dock has lost its shelf. And it looks much nicer. No hacking I promise, and it's not the background image that affects it. I use the same image on all my Macs. I'm flummoxed.

I'm not one for OSX customisation (I generally like things the way they are). But after getting inspiration from a happy accident, Flummoxed dock was born. There's really nothing special to it at all.

Update:

The Flummoxed dock files, including my layered Adobe Fireworks PNG files (so that you can easily adjust opacity) and a backup of the standard dock files are now online.

To Flummox your dock, follow these instructions
This photo has notes. Move your mouse over the photo to see them.

Hope you figure what caused this, and share. It is a definite improvement. Can has?

Ah yes, but no! I'd rather think that if they were to use reflections, they would at least get them right. The trash bin is completely wrong, as far as perspective goes - I would have a difficult time using that every day without attempting to fix it somehow.

So yes, in that it looks nicer without the shelf.
But no, in that it's still unacceptable.

Bonus points for using flummoxed though. Fantastic word.

rumours abound this is caused by iPhoto fullscreen viewing and/or sending leopard to sleep. Occasionally my hot corners stop working after the mac has been to sleep.

Reboot appears to fix it if it worked since you upgraded. 10.5.1 was meant to fix it but me thinks this is not the case.

Do your stacks play up too?

@malarkey yeah, its the symptoms I was talking about. you say this is on all machines, so I would expect it to be a problem with prefs in your library/preferences folder (~/ not root).

skimming through my prefs folder there are two with dock in them so try removing com.apple.dock.plist and com.apple.dock.db files then reboot. It should reset the dock for you.

This will reset your dock icons though (so you'll need to readd the apps)

@factoryjoe: @marchdoe: I'm in the process of making a dock skin to match this flummoxing. I'll Twitter the URL and post it here too.

interesting, never noticed this before but .... if you drag resize a window to touch the top of the flummoxed dock, it'll be reflected.

This just happened to me after waking my iMac from sleep on 10.5.3. There is a reflection of Safari's lower border where the dock reflection should be. Weird!
