Karma Clock
from the collage series "The Curious Antiquities of Dr. Moreau"
Giclee on canvas 32x50" museum wrapped
I first got the idea for my series "The Curious Antiquities of Dr. Moreau" while cruising through an antique mall with my family in Michigan. I was lucky enough to have my camera with me and began photographing many of the random treasures as they sat in their booths. I think I was approached at least three times by vendors and shop staff excitedly asking if I was from the local newspaper.
I decided to call my series "The Curious Antiquities of Dr. Moreau". An inspired title from one of my favorite stories by HG Wells - "The Island of Dr. Moreau". If the fictional mad scientiest could fuse the genes, instincts and behaviors of people and animals... what else would he do? What kind of things would he collect? What objects would one find hidden in the mysterious island home of a man who liked to play God?
So here is the first of the objects we've uncovered - The Karma clock.
We all have a limited time of existance. As the clock moves forward, so do our lives and actions. Yet, with every swing of the pendulum we are caught in a continual count down. A count down for the return of our actions.
