l'affamee by violette leduc

l'affamee by violette leduc

Series of book covers for french author Violette Leduc.
French books, at least for the vast majority of them, don't use visuals on their cover. When I moved to Scotland in 2004, the first time I stepped into a bookstore, i wondered where were the "good" books, being so used to the sleek, nearly monochrome, typography-based covers of Gallimard, Grasset or Actes Sud, which seemed to me to be the only publishers of "serious" literature. Book covers with visuals were for me the kind you found in train station. For years later, i still can't decide which book to buy by looking at the cover. This work aims at the reconciliation between my experience of the difference between the two cultures, by creating visuals, but only using type and elements of the Gallimard identity (colours and logo).
