On the subject of Canada... I took this last summer when my camera was brand new and I was still learning how to use it.
Maligne Lake is one of the largest and most well-known lakes in the Canadian Rockies. This was just a short (2 hour) canoe trip but many years ago, along with a couple of friends, I paddled to the very end. It took us 2 1/2 somewhat leisurely days (none of us was an experienced canoeist).
The lake is named for the Maligne River, which in turn was named by a French Jesuit explorer-priest in a fit of pique upon finding that his party could no longer cross due to changing water levels ("maligne" means "evil" in French).
