Sol Invictus
Dies Natalis Solis Invicti, or the Birth of the Unconquered Sun, was a late Roman celebration of the winter solstice and the birthday of the Roman sun god. Belief held that with the return of longer days, light and warmth returned to bless the Empire and the world. The significance of celestial events and message of hope and renewal were embraced by many different faiths as they looked forward to warner, brighter days during the long, cold winter nights.
