TaraTara is the female Bodhisattva of universal compassion and represents enlightened action. To those who worship her, Tara acts as a saviouress helping people overcome fears, anxiety and danger. She takes on many different aspects or virtues and is seen in this statue in the form of Green Tara embodying compassionate action. She is seated on a white lotus, representing purity, with her left leg in the position of contemplation and her right leg extended indicating that she is ready to spring into action when called. Both of her hands are in vitarka mudra, a hand gesutre which represents the discussion and transmission of the teachings of Buddhism.
