• Great work. I'm about 3 hours away from shooting my first wedding and looking for ideas, love the colours in this, great shot! - Graeme Bird

HDR Wedding

I'd like to hear your comments on this, is it a "legitimate" use of hdr, or just crazy over the top processing to use hdr for this?

I love this HDR pic. It's a beautiful portrait. Very difficult to achieve especially with people as part of the subject with multiple exposures. But you have done it beautifully. Well done!

The thought of using HDR for weddings came into my mind but I quickly dismissed it. Now that I see this, I think it is beautiful. But then again, it may just be your technique. All your work is awesome!

Hvor mange bilder brukte du på dette motivet, 2, 3 fler...
Flott effekt, og selvom hun er i litt bevegelse er det et utrolig skarpt hdr motiv av mennesker....

    Proud, eh!!!

awesome HDR and superb moment !!

  20. [Topguy] (48 months ago | reply)

Its a great picture, but I understand your reservations about it as a "wedding picture". Two things actually, the sky looks a little too dark (and threatening), and the skin of the bride look a little "dirty". Both these things is of course standard result for the HDR processing you do.

  21. kati.e75 (48 months ago | reply)

It is a wonderful photo and the two can be very proud on having such a special wedding photo.(I wish my own would be so lovely :-))
The HDR effect works very well, since it emphasizes the persons. I'd love to see it without HDR effects, just to compare.
However, you did a great job.

Very daring of you to try this at a wedding ! It could all go so wrong >) I think this has worked well....much better than having the dress highlights burn't out as in the bad old days of roll film>))

You've proved HDR for wedding shot - fantastic picture!!!

  26. morten.hammer (48 months ago | reply)

    Thanks again for comments :)
Harald S, Topguy: I used 5 exposures handheld, but had to blend in the normal exposed shot for the faces since there was a bit of movement and to reduce the dirty look, but I didn't use 100% opacity to keep with the hdr-style. I also see that the dark sky might not be ideal for a wedding shot :)
morten hammer: I agree with the arm/shoulder, maybe i'll blend in more of the normal exposure if they want a big print of this shot. I see the halo too. I did shoot lots of normal pictures as well as a few hdrs just as an experiment :)

Here is an unprocessed version of the normal exposure for comparison

Thanks for the original version. I think in this case the HDR effect makes the picture congrats for your courage!

Jeg synes det funker bra med den mørke himmelen også på bryllupsfoto! Skal det ikke være lykkebringende med litt regn i sløret? Suverent bryllupsfoto, det kan du nok fakturere unge Myrvang kraftig for ;)

Especially after seeing the single exposure version, I have to say that I love the HDR treatment! I can't believe that this is handheld, and that your subjects did such an amazing job of holding their pose. Beautiful photo!

the result is incredible.... as usual, unbelievable, you're my preferred HDR artist :-)

  38. B.Stevens (47 months ago | reply)

it's too dark for my taste, a wedding is more of a bright thing to me, also the HDR is overdone as you already stated and also a reason for the darkness in this photo, i like the idea of HDR in a wedding shot, but a more subtle HDR and brighter version would do it more for me...
Good to see some one doing his thing anyway and what do i know about wedding photography...

Also, what technique do you use to make hdr portraits look so natural. I pretty much got the hang of landscape HDR, now I want to move to shooting people. Any tips are well appreciated. Thanks =D
