Election night. The corner of Broadway and Pike in Capitol Hill. The most surreal night of my life. A crowd of thousands spontaneously formed. Champagne was being sprayed everywhere. Strangers were buying beer from a neighboring store and handing them out to passerby. Fireworks were going off, people were hanging from street signs, cars were honking….a drum circle was formed?! Crowd surfing happened? At one point some drag queens from Neighbors moved their speaker system outside and onto the street. A karaoke version of Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'" started. More madness erupted. Chants of "Yes We Can" turned into chants of "Yes We Did!" Strangers hugged one other. People were crying. The National Anthem was sung, The flag was waved. "USA, USA!" was emphatically chanted. What a night. Here's hoping things get better.
