Relatedly, at the 02:09 mark in this video, you can see a medic repeatedly reaching over the front-line of police to hit people with his baton:
www.guardian.co.uk/world/video/2009/apr/02/g2 0-protest

This is one of the few things that has genuinely shocked me about the police actions at these protests... I thought my cynicism was up to the job, but this got through.

Unbelievable. Police in the US and UK are apparently sharing a lot of training and crowd control measures. The strangest thing to me is that the police actually forget who they work for... they aren't the government's police, they are the people's police. This picture is shocking and sad. I hope this picture makes its way to the media.

The reason the Red Cross is guaranteed safe conduct in war is because it does not bear arms. By bearing arms in this way, the police medics lay themselves open to attack - which is possibly why his colleagues tried to restrain him..

Quote: "The papers were saying he was bloody before he got to Bank, and that it was ink."

The papers were full of rubbish*

I can't state categorically that he wasn't faking it, but from what I saw that guy was already covered in blood about 20 mins before that shot.

I did see him take a few baton hits because he was front centre at the Threadneedle Street police line while I was about 10m to his right. Being on the right hand side of him meant that I couldn't see the blood on the left of his face -- but I did see him getting hit.

You'll note that he has cleaned himself up a bit and ditched the white shirt that he was wearing in my later shots -- but still taking hits :(

Blood has an unreal "inky" look in all the shots. In my shots of the medics using their batons you'll see that they are supposed to be giving treatment to another cop with a bandaged head. The blood on the bandages has the same unreal colour to it.

* See the post below for evidence of unthinking bias in favour of the police from BBC news. The woman is "stated" to be swearing while the copper "apparently" strikes her:

Listen to all of you; you're all a disgrace, passing judgement on situations that you have no true knowledge of, sitting on your high horse, twisting situations to give those of you that obviously have too much time on your hands, to have something to talk about.

You can clearly see in your photographs of YR 394 that he and his colleague are trying to attend to an injured male and whilst trying to do their job they are being assaulted by these supposedly peaceful protesters who obviously were only involved in the G20 protests so that they could cause trouble and get into fights with Police and Bank workers.

Police officers had a hard job that day, they were outnumbered by a large group of mostly hostile people, and a number who had came armed with weapons. Whatever their actions on this day they would have been criticised. The force that was used was in response to the behaviour of the protesters.

YR394 is trying to stop an already injured male from being further injured and trying to defend himself so he can do his job and give necessary care to the male. I think it’s a disgrace that these medics were not allowed to get on and do their hard job and treat people without being attacked by the 'protesters' and that you opinionated people think that it is in fact the medic that is in the wrong- diabolical!

If it was a peaceful protest it would not be needed but peaceful was not the intention of the protesters at the G20. This person is a police officer who is also a medic, in any situation officers are armed, in case of attack, to protect themselves and others. Many Police officers abroad carry a gun. Medics in the army carry weapons also. In a hostile situation like this, brought on entirely by the protesters, police offiicers, even those on duty as medics are there to prpotect others and themselves.

Very colourful and imaginative.
What evidence do you have for your fantasy?
I was there, as you can see, and I saw no injured policeman being gallantly aided by 394 - and whatsmore, from where he was originally standing behind two rows of helmeted officers, neither could he. He rushed forward and blindly hit into the crowd. His actions prompted a senior officer to attempt to restrain him, which is an admission of guilt in itself.
If you believe that it is the duty of medics to use violence, you are playing directlly into the hands of those who would seek use violence against them. The Red Cross does not bear arms.
The violence at this demo was nothing special, certainly nothing compared with the scare stories circulated beforehand, but because of the new democratisation of image distribution, this time the police were caught out, and and their lies and tactics exposed.
It was a tragedy that a man had to die in order to provoke real outrage, but at least Ian Tomlinson (now) has sympathy of the vast majority of people, unlike other victims of police violence, such as Blair Peach, who were largely discredited and dishonoured after their deaths except among a minority. And when it is remembered that Blair Peach died opposing not 'capitalism' but fascism, the attitudes and practices of the media monopolies and politicians of the time must be brought into serious question.

You could have fooled me.
Freeedom of speech isn't the freedom to tell lies, or make up stories about events you know nothing of. And when you do so, you mnust expect decent people to come to their own conclusions and put you in your place.
You also seem to be saying you know that a complaint has not been lodged with the IPCC against Y394. If you carry on abusing the freedom of speech, you can expect the consequences. Unlike Ian Tomlinson, who was not even part of the demonstration, and died anyway.
Who told you that?
