Cracked touch-screen![]() Someone from Prius-UK cracked his screen on his T4 Prius after putting a sat nav on the touch-screen (DOH!). I was kind enough to let him have a brand new screen I'd been stock-piling. I'll take this screen apart and have a look eventually. The display works great, but the centre part doesn't respond to touch-screen pushes.

Mike Dimmick says:
Touch-screens work by having a pair of thin films across the surface of the screen, and measuring the resistance between the two. When the top film is pressed down against the bottom one, contact is made, current flows and the position of the contact is detected.
(There are other sorts of touch-screen but I expect this is a resistive system, as they're the most common.)
How touch-screens work
I suspect that the films will have been damaged so that current no longer flows in the damaged section. There's no way to replace this as the films are basically a coating on the screen. It needs a new screen.
