Aurelius "Aurie" Battaglia![]() (Photo from the collection of John Canemaker)
Battaglia was more famous for his children's book during the 1950s, but he also worked at UPA where he directed films like THE INVISIBLE MOUSTACHE OF RAOUL DUFY. This photo is from the late-1930s when he was working at Disney. You can see what he looked like in the 1950s in this photo. For more about Fifties animation design, check out my new book Cartoon Modern: Style and Design in Fifties Animation (Chronicle Books, 2006) and find plenty more artwork at the Cartoon Modern blog CommentsBearSouffle says:Battaglia has story credits on PINOCCHIO and
DUMBO. Like you say though, he was likely
there from the production of SNOW WHITE.

This is so surreal to finally see one of my biggest influences face to face. I've never seen a photo of him until now. What did he work on at Disney? I'm assuming Snow White since tons of artists were grabbed for that production.
