Jazz in the Arts-Youth Summer Jazz Workshop, is being held through June 2nd at Central School Arts & Humanities Center in Lake Charles. The workshop is a hands on performance clinic for aspiring middle and high school jazz musicians. The workshop emphasizes practical playing experience through a variety of classes, clinics and performance activities for the jazz musician. All participants will be placed in performance ensembles that stress a combination of reading music, improvising and collaborative music-making. The workshop will concluded with the Youth Summer Jazz Workshop Concert on Sunday at 5:00pm at the Central School Arts and Humanities Ben Mount Theatre. The concert will feature an ensemble of students who attend the workshop, saxophonist/flutist Justin Pierce from Denton, TX, violinist Jairius Daigle from the Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, and the 2013 Chester Daigle Scholarship Recipient, saxophonist Marshall Simien III.
