This photo was inspired by the abduction of Persephone. According to greek myth the goddess of vegetation was seized into the underworld by Hades and forced to become his wife. Her mother Demeter refused to let the earth bear fruit until she was returned by Zeus. Because Persephone had tasted the food of Hades, a handful of pomegranate seeds, she was forced to forever spend a part of the year with her husband in the underworld. Her annual return to the earth in spring was marked by the flowering of the meadows and the sudden growth of the new grain. Her return to the underworld in winter, conversely, saw the dying down of plants and the halting of growth.

I really want to do a whole series based on Persephone and other greek myths.
I am already 2 weeks behind with this project... I WILL be better about uploading on time in the future!

Big big thank you to Adam, Ken, Aaron, and Kayla for helping me out with this photo. It took awhile to get the hair and light right and I couldn't have done it without them! We moved into a studio last week and this was my first shoot there, I am so excited about experimenting with lighting and all the big things planned. Cirque du Soleil is this coming week, I'm sure that will get my inspiration going!

There's a cabin in a valley,
My grandpa built on your land,
Your mountains are a canvas for the makers hand
Tonight I'm fishing Elk River,
If only in my mind,
No I haven't seen her banks in such a long time
I carry you in my heart
Your memory comes over me like the dark and

Like a phone call from my baby,
Saying honey I miss you like crazy
Like a sound of a siren song
Oh Carolina keep calling me home
Calling me home

This is the last photo from home. I have got to get out and find more places to shoot here in Chicago, as well as use our studio! I’m a little homesick but I know that will fade and I wouldn’t trade the experience of being here for anything. This week I had two shoots, moved into the studio, and went to a concert. I am so excited to be a part of everything that’s going on it’s a whole different world for me. I’m off to go exploring!

This image was taken in South Carolina at an abandoned house right before I left home. I had a really hard time getting the colors and sky right, so Aaron helped me out and made it into a Phlearn Pro tutorial so you can see how we did it.
It is 18 degrees here in Chiacgo. 18! I'm a southern girl, and I sure am missing that warmer weather

I made it to the windy city! Today we went downtown and visited the house where my dad lived when he was growing up. I love it so far and it has actually been really nice weather but I've heard rumors about a snowstorm coming tomorrow. I'm telling myself I'll be brave enough to go out in those temperatures for some self-portraits
