LOUVRE - Paris The treasures of Ancient Egypt
Hathor/Isis with her protecting hand towards Osiris, the god of the dead and the underworld. In her right hand she holds the Ankh, the sign of eternal life. On the far right is Thoth, the scribe, who make notes of the dead person's sins or virtues. On the scale in front of Thoth is the divine feather of Ma'at, the goddess of truth and justice. The heart of the dead person is measured against the feather, if heavier than the feather of Ma'at the person will not enter the Underworld since the heart is heavy with sins. If lighter or the same weight of the feather, the dead person has no sins and can live on in Paradise with Osiris and the gods.
