I was kind of dissapointed by two things when I walked into the Hagia Sophia. One, the massive scaffolding was STILL there 2 and a half years later after my last visit. Two, I was not allowed to climb up it! The restoration process is very time consuming from what I have read. I also have read that the dome is so massive that there has been a lot of problems in the past with shifting and movement of the dome itself and the walls that are supporting it. I think right now they are just working on restoring the mosaics on the ceiling.

Amazing shot. such an incredibly large space. This is one of those places that is on my list of things to see before I need a walking stick, a trip from Turkey to Nepal would be pretty cool I think. Thanks for the comment on the rice terraces. I'm the same I'd very much love to go back and explore the area more thoroughly again and in a different season to see the contrast to Winter. The region is changing very quickly with roads being built and tourism playing a bigger role in the community I know that when I return it will not be the same.
