Deaf students in Iquitos, Peru visit the Amazon Community Animal Rescue./Los estudiantes sordos en Iquitos, Perú visita la Comunidad de Amazonas el Rescate Animal. by AmazonCARES.
Local students from the Iquitos, Peru school for the deaf learn about the Amazon Community Animal Rescue program. Their teacher ,Patty, communicates with them using American Sign Language. Remember the term "deaf & dumb"? Sadly, in Peru, these children are still ostracized and viewed as "crazy". They loved visiting the dogs at our shelter camp.

We are excited about increasing our activities with these and other handicapped children.

Deaf children are very alienated in Peruvian society. These children can not communicate with others. They are often ostracized in their own families. It looks like they were having a wonderful day in this picture!

Hi, amazonactivist

Nice image! People who called us "dumb and mute" Well, They are stupid, too. Just ignore what people says about us. In fact, I do not like the word of dumb and mute. Because deaf people can do anything. Of course, God gives us deaf and he loves us so much. Anyway, I wonder if deaf Peruvians do have their own sign language than American Sign Language? In 1970's to 1981, many teachers opposed sign languages in Lima. They taugh deaf Peruvians to learn how to speak. They were abused too much. Today, I do not know if there is a new Peruvian Sign Language to me. God bless you.

Hola, amazonactivist

Niza imagen!
