Madison from 5000 feet

Down the Isthmus towards the University and the West side of town. If you look closely you can see my house, at least where it would be if you could see through the trees. Lake Mendota is frozen. I am not sure what is causing the patterns maybe they are "lake circles"?

Lake Mendota's Ice cracks are the crevasses created by the expanding Ice pressure. These crevasses are precarious to cross as you speed skate (or Ice Boat) across the 9 by 5 mile lake. They create a beautiful sound as they build in the night. Like Sheboygan's fog horn, yet unpredictable. This lake is the reason why the greatest speed skaters in the world come from Madison.
