Biscuit Tin Pinhole Test

Biscuit Tin Pinhole Test by alspix.
I really love xiao_shan’s pinhole photos and they inspired me to have a go myself.
The camera is an old metal biscuit tin. The film is outdated colour print, exposed for about 30s then developed in some used B&W developer that should’ve gone down the drain a couple of weeks ago. But it worked! Now the tricky bit, actually taking some decent photos… Oh dear! :-/

Please excuse the following uppercaseness...

THAT'S RIDICUlOUS!

That feels better.

Am I the only one here that's constantly surprised by the diversity of your mad scientist approach to photography? Do you wear a [photography] lab coat when you work?

Everything about this one is just great.

I can't believe I sent my latest films to the place you recommended when I could have just given them to you to process with "B&W developer that should’ve gone down the drain a couple of weeks ago." Fuck it, I might just give you the un-used film so you can take my photos as well!

p.s. The xiao_shan’s link is faulty...hover, you'll see.

Jay, you are NOT the only one, believe me. Al is a psycho mad scientist Gnutter!

But it's really fun and inspiring watching him from the sidelines.

He's told me about some of his other ideas and I'm not sure the sidelines will be far enough away...maybe in a isolated top-secret military bunker somewhere deep underground where you're only likely to feel a post-alspix-photo-missile tremmor.

pinhole doodlebug and a zone-plate grenade next wasn't it Alspix? Both have neat timing devices that I'm sure you'll work out how to tame.

Oh shit, I shouldn't be giving you ideas should I. Expect test rolls from the above by the weekend Flickrers!

oi oi - how did you decide how long to develop the film for in the 'dead' developer? I ahve bottles and bottles of the stuff waiting to go to disposal - it'd be nice to have a ballpark figure of what sort of timings you've been using :)

I'm very much enjoying looking at your pics :)

Calculating the development time involved rigorous mathematical analysis of the developer exhaustion characteristics.

Oh alright, I guessed! :-) This was colour print film, so I didn't know what time to choose for normal development. I just looked at what seemed average for 100ASA B&W film on the dev instructions (10mins looked about right) and added a couple of minutes for luck. No scientific basis to it at all! It was "pre-owned" Jessops Econotol.

Thanks and Happy New Year to you too! I can take no credit for this multi-strip stuff though, the multi film strip stuff is xiao_shan's baby!

If you really want to see the envelope pushed on this technique, check this out!!

The old film, used developer, metal BISCUIT TIN?! DAMN!...you are an inspiration! :) The overall color and distortion around the sprocket holes is fantastic...as is the comp./angle. Just...stellar. :)

love xiao's work but he doesn't seem to be around quite often. Could you tell me how you got the film to stick to the back so firmly, tapes dont do a neat job...

alspix  Pro User  says:

@click flick: I just used tape at each end of the film strip, lining them up wasn't easy, had to feel the edge of the film in the dark and hope the next strip butted against it neatly
