Where I Live

Here be saunas.
Recession Starter Land
Are we subsidizing the Turkish part or are they having access to Youtube?
It's called Occupied part (of Cyprus)and not Turkish! By EU its offcially described as one country, even the non-controlled by the Republic of Cyprus areas, thats why the whole island its included there! ;)
You should forgive him, he's German and not well trained in Semantics. :)
Here mosquitoes are waiting for people to get out of their saunas.
Here people bathe by beating themselves with birch sticks.
I forgot to mention that this region is autonomous and commonly known as "The Overseas Dependencies".
It's exempt from EU legislation and not subsidized by Brussels.

A traceroute to the website of the Pres. of the TRNC (www.kktcb.eu) goes via Turkey, which suggests that they might be subject to YT filtering as well.

THIS MAP IS A LIE !!111^1!!

You're wrong here... 'no oil sea' does have oil, lots.... in some parts.
Romania and Ucraina were fighting over it, and Romania won in Hague this year to extract like 70%of it, and Ukraine the rest.
The title is ironic. According to many people, the Bulgarian part is also full with oil. Problem is, neither Bulgaria, nor Romania or Ukraine have begun extracting it. When they actually do, I'll change the title. ;)
here i'm

And happy belated birthday!!! I hope the cake was delicious and I wish you many such cakes for the years ahead.

Which of the many DMTs are you referring to? :) Dimethyltryptamine or desoxymethyltestosterone?

I agree on the money issue, I generally don't like money anyway but it is a means to an end I guess.

The tryptamine of course, the substance our consciousness floats on, well according to some anyway, haven't tried it yet ... well not on purpose (they say it is the stuff that makes us dream).

That was actually done before David Cerny's work became public. It's a reaction to the gas supply problem we had. Half of Europe was left to freeze in one of the most severe winters in the recent decade, so it's not an attempt to play cultural jokes, it's more political than cultural and despite it may appear funny, it carries a large amount of frustration as well. :)

Unfortunately if I replace this image with a bigger version, I will break most blog links and that wouldn't be fair. But you can still access a larger version of it - just click on "All Sizes" button just over the image. I think the biggest resolution available shows the small names more clearly. :)

I think Bjork is still considerably rich though. :) There's hope! As for the Banker's union - that's a nice idea but I bet the Irish will declare independence some time in the future, just as it happened the last time... you know... :)

artwerk by alphadesigner  Pro User  says:

@dance~to~this~beat - I'm glad you are taking it with a sense of humour. If we really lack something on the Balkans, it is exactly the ability to laugh at ourselves.

The name dispute is certainly ridiculous and "Nameless" is supposed to illustrate exactly that because officially you are kind of nameless (in UN terms) just because a single country opposes your right to call yourself the way you want.

If Georgia follows the same example, it could probably demand the U.S. state of Georgia to rename itself or be expelled from NATO. :))

"Ass" however would be just slightly above my humour threshold for this particular artwork (if I can call it that way). Greece is much better situated in the Union of Subsidized farmers. Especially Greece. ;)

@Marcus Vitruvius Thank you. Hopefully, everyone can find his or her own truth in it but this map wasn't a singular statement and it wasn't supposed to get so popular, so nobody should take it too seriously.

Hi,
do you know that your map was printet in a german newspaper? Did they pay to you something? I think, that this map is funny and I can understand, that it was cold in Bulgaria because of this story with gas (my friends in Bulgaria said, they didn't care about - it's possible to heat with something else). Whatever. I hope you know what it means - paranoid (I just look for it in bulg. wiki - it's not much). The joke is, that if this newspaper (before europ. elections) print you map, they wand to say something with it, and if they mean, that Russia is paranoid (is out of control, mean without reason that everybody want something bad to it) and at the same time write about Russia two abasing kommentars more in the same issue - I think it's a contradiction. What do you mean?
By the way - I was today in the Bulg. Embassy in Munich - I had to copy all the dokuments myself!!! It seems they have no money to copy anymore... Schould I write Mr. Barosso to help bulg. Embassy to buy a new copier? Just fun.
Any more - since I was in Bulgaria, I don't want to visit other countries. I found there something special - people with heart and nature without "euro"touch. You surely see it other way, but somebody who live in old europe (but was not born there) could understand it.
Sorry for such a lond message.

I didn't know it was published in a newspaper. If you have a chance could you let me know which one did it?

I think using this map to single out any country in a serious way is tasteless but of course I can't control people's reactions and the way they interpret what they see (or want to see). But I will appreciate a compensation if my image was used commercially because the license that I attached to it obviously doesn't allow it without my personal permission.

On another note, I don't think the term "old Europe" makes sense. If there would be such a thing historically, I think Greece should be considered old, not Germany. :) But I can understand your excitement about Bulgaria. As for our embassies - they are quite chaotic and messy, Even Baroso wouldn't be able to fix that. :))

Well, surely I can say you which one it was. I also can send you a foto of this side. Pay attention: under you map they write: "bearbeitet von ...", they mean, that the map was edited by them, but there are no difference (only the star with ArtWerk ist not there any more). They wrote, that it's a map from "bulgarischen Büros Alphadesigner" - bulgarian agency ... (how else I should find you).

The newspaper is "Süddeutsche Zeitung" Nr. 128 from Sa/So 6./7. June this year. "Themenseite" - rubric theme-side, Side V2/4-5.

About "old Europe". I understand your sarcasm, but it's a concept (look "oE" in engl. wiki). Anyway, if you would have your office in London or similar, this newspaper would surely ask you about printing your work (in the "old Europe" they have to do it), but you are not and look what they have done.

P.S. This newspaper astonisched me... I could imagine any reaction of you, but that you didn't know it at all...

Well that's a surprise. :) I thought it was a small regional newspaper but Süddeutsche Zeitung should know better. And now I understand your point about old Europe.

Please send me the photo, I'll also check with some of my friends in Germany if I can get a copy of the newspaper. I'll certainly write to them to ask for an explanation. Thanks for letting me know once again!

I already sent them a message asking for explanation. It's hard for me to believe that they misused the image intentionally because it spreads on two pages and is the central element of the whole article, plus they really attributed it to "bulgarischen Büros Alphadesigner" (maybe they didn't catch the irony of my "political design buro" expression because in real life I am not a buro, I am a person and if they followed the link attached to that phrase they would have clearly found that out. :)

Either way, I have never allowed such use of any of my images here and I never will, so I think we will reach an agreement about compensation but for now I will wait for their answer next week.

It's strange but I never imagined this map would become that popular. It's something of a personal tragedy - I don't look at it as an artwork of some kind, just a momentous outburst of bitter humour that was supposed to be buried among the other stuff in my stream, which I think is far superior. ;)

But it seems you never know when fame will hit you and it seems it always hits you the wrong way. Poor Michael Jackson, he knows what I am talking about. :)))
