Australia Day - fireworks

you can see that this is the focal point

but not having live view, nor having marked my lens, i didnt know where the focal point was, and as you can see, i went past it and it blurred out again. thankfully, not too much

NOT PHOTOSHOPPED - this is focus blur technique - changing the focus during an exposure.

My first go at focus blur technique! Unfortunately as it was my first go i ruined a lot of pics. practice makes perfect though i guess so now i have to wait for skyfire!

Awesome!!!!!!! I remember my dad doing this on a very long exposure of the stars as they move across the sky, back in the days when he used film. This shot worked out brilliantly, and I think the little areas at the end of the sparks makes it look organic.

When I saw the thumbnail, I never guessed it was a fireworks shot! Brilliant technique, well done Ally!

As for getting a deeper DOF, stopping down the lens helps, but then you might need to expose for longer than 1s and loose the ability to get this sort of capture... unless you are willing to compensate by cranking up the ISO a notch (which I personally don't like to do :-( )

thanks everyone! i'm so glad u all like it. i was blown away when i first saw this technique and i was so excited about australia day becuase i was hanging out to try it. it really is so much fun. i could do it for hours. so many different ways i want to do it!!! cant wait till march for the next lot of fireworks!

its so much fun i've even thought about buying a lens baby just for this technique with fireworks! alas i dont want to spend that much for a lens i think i'd barely use. so if anyone wants to lend me one.... :P
