Thank you for all the comments. I will be
honest and say that I don't feel this is my
best work, but I do appreciate your comments.

I love the comment from scleroplex. It seems
like everything is made in China nowadays
including plastic grocery bags in the US.
Glad that something as sacrosanct as the
poppy is still made locally!

I remember visiting Westminster Abbey on
Memorial Day 50 years ago with my parents,
and seeing all the little wooden crosses and
poppies lined up.
So beautiful and so sobering...
“They shall not grow old as we that are left
grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years
condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the
morning
We will remember them.”
Living as I do in the USA now, it is still
surprising to me that the poppy symbol is not
associated with Veteran's Day here (also
today) as it is in Europe.
The poppy is such a beautiful and poignant
symbol to us Europeans.

I need to find a way to order these from the
UK and give them out here. You can NOT find
them in California, and suprisingly every
year I talk to people here who have NO idea
what they are...blows my mind

The kids entered a "Poppy Poster"
contest every year when I taught art.
In 2000, a sixth grader WON the National
contest with her poppy
poster! She had drawn a national cemetery,
each tombstone grounded
on a field of over 1000 hand-drawn poppies,
instead of the usual grass.
Her colors were beautiful. (Forgot her
words...) Note: She also had included Jewish
star markers & every tombstone had a real
name.
