Double-exposure in-camera with Nikon D700

Double-exposure in-camera with Nikon D700

I love this feature of the Nikon D700 and whilst I don't use it so often, I am so happy the camera can do it.

It's a bit hit and miss. But that was what it was like with film too.

Shot this one of a friend of mine who was out on the architectural photowalk with me last Sunday.

One shot about a metre away from him, one close-up of his eye and glasses.

Gear?

Nikon D700
PC Nikkor 24mm f/3.5 AF-D
Multiple exposure settings: 2 shots, exposure blend ON
Monochrome also done in-camera.

Grungy Ginza | Exploring the Backstreets

Grungy Ginza | Exploring the Backstreets

Ginza is to Tokyo, IMHO, what Bond Street is to London: glitzy fashion shops, posh cars, polish and shine.

Head off the main-drag though and you find some of the most amazing backstreets, alleyways and shabby corners. After doing some of the showy, high-end buildings and sites on last week's architecture workshop, we explored what for me is the more interesting side to Ginza.. and headed into those backstreets and alleyways.

This shot is part reflection, part real-world; shot into a window but including part of what was not reflected.

Street Candid in Omotesando, Tokyo

Street Candid in Omotesando, Tokyo

I was walking to meet a student for her first lesson and saw ahead of me this poster.... and reckoned it would be a great place to get a shot.

Didn't have time to stop, as I was almost running late for the lesson. So, got ready, set the lens to f/8 and using the distance scale on the lens moved the focus ring so I had depth of field from 1m to infinity [zone focusing]. At 400ISO that meant I was getting around 250th sec speed. Perfect, as I was walking and my subject would probably be walking too.

Got near the poster and this lady was just heading towards it and me. As I passed her and the poster, turned to my left, framed, shot and kept walking.

Would have been nice to have been closer to her.... but I'll go back here and get some more shots soon. Monochrome is a bit flat for some maybe..but I'm kind of in to a low-contrast thing at the moment.

Making a Call: Ebisu, Tokyo

Making a Call: Ebisu, Tokyo

I've been getting closer to people recently, mainly down to the 21mm [32mm on the cropped sensor] on the Epson R-D1 rangefinder. And it's been very satisfying when the shots work.

I'd just rounded a corner and this girl was right next to me so I turned and got a shot of her. I was conscious of framing her cleanly but didn't notice Colonel Sanders in the shot til I got it home.....

Ferrari 250Lusso

Ferrari 250Lusso

Shot this with the iPhone 4S and Instagram app as they were packing away the classic cars at last weekend's Ferrari Racing Days in Suzuka.

I was there shooting doco stuff for Ferrari.

Gorgeous curves on this car. Perhaps some of Ferrari's finest.
