JUDY CHEEKS - Single Tear - Beautiful heartbreaking ballad with Judy in fine voice on a very consistent album .

CLYDE MCPHATTER - Crying Won't Help You Now - Wonderful " Big City " Soul from the ever brilliant Mr . McPhatter .

BETTY WRIGHT - A Sometime Kind Of Thing - Fantastic mesmerising slowie , great lyrics , brilliant strings.

HOAGY LANDS - Reminisce - Had this a while now but it still floors me , great spoken intro with Hoagy setting the scene , before executing a great song in his " down on my knees " style - just brilliant !!

LAURA LEE - You Need Me - Long overdue release for this fantastic ballad , only released in Japan previously , now on this budget priced essential CD - every home should have one !!

Muy buenas selecciones "for connaiseurs only", (es decir no aptas para "afisionaos" del tres al cuarto como yo, :-)) ). Una manera de aprender es "aprender cuán ignorante es uno", pues sólo conozco lo "más obvio".
De Isaac Hayes & Dionne Warwick tengo un doble vinilo en directo, "A Man & A Woman", (ABC, 1976) con una interpretación de Dionne del "I Can't Hide Love" de lo más soul de esta bella dama. Y una arremetida al "Chocolate Chip" (a dúo con Isaac) de lo más cañero.

El 12" de Little Grace & The Dells no sé si sonará en una onda similar al "Listen Up Young Brothers" del CD "I Salute You" de los Dells, que es lo único que tengo de los Dells en el sello PIR y de todo este sello posterior a 1987... Suena muy sintético. Bien por las voces, pero del sello PIR echo de menos el sonido big-band tan jazzístico y característico de grabaciones anteriores. A partir de los elepés de Phyllis Hyman y del "Let Me Touch You" de los O'Jays, se volvió demasaido "techno". Aunque del efímero sello G&H (previo a la reinstauración del sello PIR en BMG), tengo el "Run Jessie Run" de Lou Rawls & James Cleveland que suena muy orquestado.

Perdón por el rollazo; soy un phillysound-adicto nostálgico...

Hola Soulero61,

La canción de Grace Litte con los Dells se publicó en 2000, pero casi diez años antes el CD de los Dells que mencionas -"I salute you"- incluía la interpretación (original?) del tema. Las dos son muy buenas, pero me gusta más la de GL de 2000.
