Outskirts of Agra, Uttar Pradesh, India
I took this photo the Morning of December 23, though at the time I had lost all sense of what day of the month – or even the week – it was, not that it mattered much. We had left Udaipur the night before, and this was to be the last train we'd take while in India. I'd later come to miss traveling this way with the hustle and bustle of the train stations late at night and followed by gentle rocking of the train to lull you to sleep. A much less hurried and stressful means of travel compared with flying.
Christmas was looming but you couldn't tell. Back home everything had a layer of white, and the air was chilled. But here? Not so much; deserts and tshirts and plenty of bottled water. The only sign we were getting close to the 25th were the few decorations that had been put up in the hotel for the Christian travelers. I actually preferred this level of Christmas decorations to the obscene displays witnessed in any Wal-Mart for the two month period starting each November.
