Southern Railway four unit set of EMD E8A locomotives wait for their next assignment on the Crescent in the Ivey City Railroad Yard at Washington, D.C., June 1976. This view provides a good overall view of many areas of the yard. In the foreground are the diesel ready tracks for the Southern Railway, Chessie System and Amtrak diesel electric locomotives. Next are the electric locomotive service and ready tracks and last the portion of the yard used by Amtrak for complete train storage and for individual cars. To the right of the Southern Railway locomotives is an Amtrak EMD SDP40F locomotive, then the nose of an Amtrak E8A or E9A unit, some GG-1 electric locomotives and lastly Amtrak passenger cars. There also appears to be a old heavyweight PRR looking baggage car in the mix.
