Nice one, Fin. Hard for me to imagine two cops flanking a struggling suspect fitting through that narrow door. But I suppose that back when that building was designed, British bad guys were as civilized as Noel Coward.

They didn't talk posh like what he did though. They were supposed to say: 'It's a fair cop, guv. I done it all. I'll come quietly, just don't wake up the missus'. It was in the script.

I can see I'm off on a British cop-shop kick now - it's getting the blue lamp into the shot that can be tricky.

I saw a red fire station lamp in the same design recently, never seen one before.

Got to know the station quite well as I lived next door for many a year. Apparently, it's up for re-development, but that has been on the cards for some while. Still, when it goes, get your bids in for that lamp. You don't see many police there; it seems to be used primarily as a car park for patrol cars at the back. Handy on match days, I suppose.

They kept the old lamp at Stoke Newington and bolted it on to the side of the new station. Would look great in the front garden, true, but I suspect it would not go down well with the local plod.

Hi, I joined the Met in 1976 and worked at Highbury Vale for a number of years - I found WW11 gas masks and tin hats in the basement after a flood. There was a gas ring in the 'Doctors room' which was affectionately known as the 'eternal flame' with the biggest kettle I'd ever seen. The villains were always dragged in by the back door by the way. Nice to see the interest in the old building - in the old days the police were billeted in accomodation on the top floors, same as the firestation next door. Cheers. Richard
