Sexier than a Librarian

Sexier than a Librarian by ATIS547.
LAX Terminal 3 shouts Sony's gratuitously offensive and sexist advertisement in giant letters. Perhaps not only librarians of both sexes, but friends and fans of librarians will consider boycotting this product.

"Sexier than a librarian. The Reader. From Sony."

UPDATE: Sony has answered us.

Here's my response to Sony:
"Sorry Sony -- you just proved our point. You have conceded that what you meant by "Sexier" than a librarian, is -- and I quote YOU -- "breathtaking," "incredibly smooth," "just can't take your eyes away from," and "something that emotionally attracts you."

In other words, by "sexy" you meant "sexy." And you think librarians would be the appropriate counterpoise, the "Before" example to your "After." That is inappropriate, offensive, and boycott-worthy."

Do you agree?

Unlike librarians, however, the Reader has a terrible user interface.

why not say, "sexier than the old traditional stereotype of a librarian"? i know some pretty sexy librarians... poor Sony, whoever thought up the slogan didn't think too hard that they'd need the support of librarians and that libraries would possibly purchase these for patrons to use... i won't be getting one...

Baloney! If it gets people reading, who cares what sort of retarded sidelong jabs some idiot at a marketing company glues to a wall?

"who cares"?!

This librarian cares that her job is being belittled in order to sell something.

Hey, narniabound, I'm a librarian, too. This is just crappy marketing. By making a big stink over it, people just fan the flames.

I think we should turn this stereotype on its head. Geico cavemen? So last year. I see ads from the ALA hyping the sexy, jetsetting life of a librarian.

Mix this up with Mudflap Girl librarian from the Wyoming campaign and you've got a battle of the sexy. www.wyominglibraries.org/campaign.html

By getting so up in arms about the librarian stereotype, librarians are creating a whole, new ugly stereotype. Let's all do our jobs and get on with life.

I took it to mean that librarians are sexy, but this Sony gadget's even sexier. Conjuring the image of the "hot" librarian with the horn-rimmed glasses.
Still sexist, but a different take.
Goes to show maybe I have some sexism to work out that I assumed the librarian in question was female, and that a male sex fantasy prototype popped into my head.
Brain bleach!

You're missing the point, it's saying that librarians ARE sexy!
Why would anyone compare themselves to something that isn't sexy?

Personally I am not offended at being called a "sexy librarian!"

I like being a sexy librarian, I like being a sexy librarian, I like being a sexy librarian ... and I defy the idea of a device being sexier than a person. :)

PS - I took a bunch of pics of these ads in the San Francisco subway tunnels, but the light wasn't very good. Yours are better.

This librarian just discovered the ad on a trip to NYC and posed in front of it after a sleepless overnight bus ride. You be the judge of whether a gadget is sexier than a human being.
