Phil Packer training to row the English Channel for Help for Heroes
Major Phil Packer was injured on the 19th February 2008 in Iraq and suffered spinal cord damage. He is now in a wheelchair.
Phil has decided to raise £1million for Help for Heroes. He explains
why,
"The reason why I am embarking on this quest is that I am
inspired by fellow injured servicemen at Headley Court; so many who
have injuries far worse than mine. I believe I have a responsibility
to assist those who need support. I hope to achieve this by using the
training and experience the Armed Forces have given me, combined with
a new understanding of the emotional journey. I hope to succeed with a
positive attitude and with sincerity, humility, understanding and
compassion. Help for Heroes, Headley Court and the Army have been my
lifeline; this is my way of giving something back.
"Through physical challenges, I intend to support Help for Heroes
by raising £1million and whilst doing so, displaying a positive image
of disability and provide information on events and sports to fellow
injured servicemen in order to raise awareness of organisations,
charities and people that help and assist the disabled".
I am privileged to have got to know Phil and to be joining him in an
attempt to row to France! You can support Phil's Challenge by donating
