Photo from the Diversity Discussion Group: White Privilege 101 held on Saturday 1/12/08 during the American Library Association's 2008 Midwinter Meeting in Philadelphia and sponsored by the ALA Office for Diversity and Committee on Diversity.
The session was presented by Art Munin, and drew a standing room only audience. We were honored to be joined by Dr. E.J. Josey.
More Info:
Whiteness is a concept that must be defined historically. Throughout
history, the belief that Whiteness does not exist nor is it privileged
has persisted. We will uncover how White privilege has evolved, how it
is perpetuated today and what we can do in our roles to unhinge its
power. Come to this discussion group and learn how to put knowledge
into action.
Art Munin has worked as a social justice educator and advocate in the capacities of Assistant Dean of Students at DePaul University and through his private consulting company Art Munin Consulting.
