White Light Contained

White Light Contained by Reciprocity.
Twisting Light #22; Taming Light #2

Most of the Refractographs using plastics already posted have been selected areas from large patterns. Now I am trying to make small but complete 'works of art' within the 35mm frame size.

For new viewers: these are analog images formed directly on to film without the use of a camera lens (in the same way as a photogram), of the refraction patterns of light passing through formed and shaped plastics. Normally a b/w image, colour has
been added directly into the plastic. The fine detail of the diffraction patterns and the rainbow colours can be seen when viewed large.

Nice and interesting.

There's something i would like to know about the plastics that are the source of these refractions:
are they daily use objects (i mean bottles, envelopes...)? Or are you a chemical engineer, capable of melting and giving shapes and colors to some plastics?

Wow!!! Another instant favourite, Alan. This is absolutely unique. Sorry to be so prosaic but the strands around the edges remind me of the bungee cords on Hannah and Lauren's trampolines. :-)

The bounce certainly hasn't gone from your bungee, mind.

WOW! Even more incredible that the original series! You really have something here!!!

And funny how everyone sees something different. When I first saw this, I saw a CPU ready to be mounted on a motherboard. Different minds I guess. Still a BEAUTIFUL image!!!

Thank you all for your wonderful comments and faves.
>ciokkolata; the 'Bending Light' set is made with found objects, mostly glass with one or two plastic items. For this 'Twisting Light' set I have created all the forms using all sorts of techniques for shaping and moulding the plastic to form surface patterns to give the refraction patterns. It has taken me nearly a year to get to this stage after hundreds of experiments so please forgive me if I do not divulge my secrets at the moment.

>E; yes it is fraying a little round the edges.

>bitrot; Mark, I was thinking more of the heart of an ultra high temperature plasma fusion reaction, but I'll accept bungees as well. :-).

>PidderBear; CPU is fine too, it's all a question of scale. With no reference, anything goes!

Quite magnificent illustration of what we've talked about before, you desire to get to the point where you have total control over the refracted patterns. Yet somehow I suspect you are still holding back. This, I suspect... is just a taste.

I should add this is so vastly new apart from the previous that perhaps a new series/set is in order?

Have to admit I laughed out loud at Bitrot's second comment - I was thinking the same thing. This is oustanding - it's almost impossible to believe that this isn't a photograph of some volatile chemical reaction, and I agree that this is worthy of a new series in the sense that you appear to have more control over the results - but I have to stress that I don't mean that in a negative way or that this is any less interesting than the 'random' experiments.
