Replacing the house patio?

Want to know what is happening here? It is not just a guy squatting on the ground. On bhogi day, the day before pongal, men and boys will rebuild their mud huts, making repairs. Here my friend's father has dug up their outside foyer/porch area and is repacking the fresh mud, readying it for kolum drawing.
