Thats horrible. Did they steal it off flickr?

Comes with poor, rush and dash editors - guess our newspapers are becoming as bereft of morality as the news they cover.

Akshath how do they do these ? do they download images by visiting your photo-stream (right-click save-picture as) ? Can you not disable-photo-downloads from your privacy settings?

Sorry am new to this, so asking, but its a shameful gesture from such media people to steal pictures.

newspapers need only low res pics for their printing ... We've had big name newspapers like The Times of India stealing pictures from flickr - www.flickr.com/photos/kkseema/467043899/

ethics and values are at a premium these days :o) and the big fish steal big!

ayashok yes will be sending them legal notice if they do not respond back to my email soon. These guys not only stole the image they even cropped out the copyright notice that was in place.

ragiks yes they can just save the image by right clicking. disabling photo-downloads from your privacy settings only make this process harder by overlaying a blank image but any thing visible on internet can always be downloaded.

Rajiv© yes; very true

shivanayak will be sending them legal notice if they do not respond back to my email soon.

Akshath, check with Suyog of BSB about how he handled his stolen image issue. There was a long discussion about it too, you might find some useful info there ...

Sue the pants off these thieves. That would teach them a lesson. It would have been easier in US, but in India it is usually an all different story.

Good luck. Keep us posted. Will check back.

Hey Akshanth, I'm happy to know that atleast they admitted that much. you should ask them to re-publish the same image as a thumbanil with proper credit. ( which unfortunately didn't happen in my case though I demanded! The editor simply transferred all my correspondance to Times's legal department and they never bothered to reply me! )

Any updates on it further. I think you should sue them. No compensation, just teach them a lesson. I cannot read the language but what is this article about and how picture is related to article.

Congrats on getting them to respond! Its nice to see the organisation take some responsibility for an individuals act.

Sad again that bigger names like The times of India dont even seem to have this much of ethics and values in them.

Akshath, this is becoming a rampant problem now. Could you please add this image to Indian Copyright Laws please?

Can you please email me the status of this case now? I fought a case recently and went in for an out of court settlement.

I could probably help with whatever information i have. I'm also speaking with archanasr and twilightfairy whose images have been stolen. It looks like this whole copyright thing is unknown to our press folks.

Did you ask for any compensation as well? It's very convenient for them to just publish a miniscule line in one corner, once the deed is done.
