Things are weird without you

Look into my eyes
this is just amazing!
Nice.. what exactly is this? How did you manage!!
This is a LIGHTFROG, they only appear at special times of the night and are very hard to capture with a camera, usually all you get is the trail they leave behind :)
nice socks :)
Nice detail
ooo! who's? :)

Strobist: OlympusFL50 snooted gelled CTO cam right@me @1/8. Vivitar285HV cam right into shoot through umbrella @1/4. Nikon SB26 behind me gelled CTO @1/4

Tonight I wanted to do something a little different thanks to my Rosie, she brings out the weird(good) in me. I am going to keep trying new things until this brain dries up. I had really big plans for this shot.

This was taken at 11:30 in an old abandoned building I found tonight. Unfortunately i was not able to spend as long as i wanted to on the shot, because soon after this was taken 2 police officers showed up and charged me with trespassing, AWESOME. They were like "What the hell are you doing alone in the dark in an abandoned building at 11:30!"
so I said calmly

"Taking pictures"
"Of what"
I responded with the obvious "myself"

Apparently I scared the crap out of some old ladies who lived down the street, they saw my flashes going off and thought there was some sort of silent gang fight going on in the building, and that the flashes of light were from guns being fired. Crazy old people.
I am pretty sure I weirded the cops out a decent bit, not to mention I wasn't being too cooperative, because I was pissed they made me cut my shoot short! So what came of it? I am no longer allowed anywhere near this (awesome) building, and if I am ever caught trespassing again, I will be arrested on the spot. Not bad for a Thursday night :)

maybe you could get a permit then rub it in their faces if they try and mess with you again.

you should have changed plans quickly and asked them to be involved in your new 365 shot for the night. don't know how that would have gone down...

@mulletgod - yeah I totally thought of that as I was driving away, though something tells me the wouldn't have cooperated...maybe the fact that when i told them I was a photographer, they responded with "so you must trespass a lot"

The neighbors thought it was light sabers. You could have been Darth Vader. So really the police were a little negligent to rush in on you without the swat team.
And those arcs of light? Something tells me you're not going to explain how you did it.
Great work.

To all those wondering about the arcs of light, it is really easily done, it is just light painting with a flashlight. I wanted the effect of some little light creature jumping out of the toilet :)

Well done, this is another cool photo, you're very creative! I was wondering how did you do the "light frog" effect... I thought it was photoshopped but then you said it was a flashlight... still don't understand how could you hold a flashlight if u were in the picture? It must have been somebody else or... what? Keep up the great work!! :)

to help understand how i did this:
A concept that took a little while for me to TRULY grasp and be able to use: During an exposure, the camera will only take in light information as it is given. If for instance the only light the camera can see for part of the exposure is that of the flashlight, it will get burned onto the image. When the flashes fire at the end of the exposure, the light from the flashlight will remain. Often i will increase the length of my exposure if there is no ambient light, that way I can control when during the exposure my flashes will go off, and only in that instance (1/10,000 sec) will there be light hitting the sensor. Same concept used here flickr.com/photos/aknacer/2588798719/ this was a 10 sec exposure, i just had it set do the flashes would trigger exactly when I was out of the water. Hope this helps. EXIF data on this shot says something like 2 sec, but i swear it was more like 6 sec, the night was a rush tho and i may be mistaken :)

i never understood why the police mess with people who arent causing any trouble, why not sit around for a while, watch and let the guy finish what he is doing... then if you see something wrong, THEN press charges or get irate. but to just fly off the handle and assume youre in there causing no good... obviously not taking pictures, why else would you be there with thousands of dollars worth of picture equipment... waiting for your crack dealer to give you $30 worth of rock for it?? hells no.
