Durham Hawk

It's hard to make out from this photo (taken, in my defense, under hostile circumstances: it was raining and the light was dim even outside the dense foliage of the tree) but last week I practically rubbed shoulders with an urban hawk. I wish I could recall a distinguisihing feature of this creature; I didn't spot a red tail, and the chest seemed darker and more mottled than the hawk illustrations in bird guides. I'm guessing it's an immature Cooper's or Red-Tail, but I'm not sure.
