Broken Newton by Andrew Turner.
I won this broken (or is it?) Newton Message pad at AdHoc/MacHack 2005 for developing a "Potentially Useful Application", DashSaver.

Hey Andrew, I bet it's not broken... it probably just needs a new backup battery. It would be great if you would add this photo to the Newton group. Maybe we can help you get this baby up and running again. Thanks.

Just curious... what makes you think it's broken? Is it actually missing pieces. Based on the photo, it looks like it's in pretty good shape.

It's in great shape - just doesn't turn on, and haven't had a chance to diagnose it. Not sure exactly where to start - though plugging in would probably work ;)

Replace the 2032 Lithium battery and the 4 AAAs. Use the Stylus to hold down the reset button in the battery bay while simultaneously holding down the power switch. Hold this for 20 seconds or until the screen comes to life. Look on You Tube for a Newton intro video which tell you have to use the handwriting recognition sofware.
