Muantha river is the nerve center of the life of the people of Cuamba.
He supplies the population of drinking water which is saddled the head in plastic containers, large gourds or cans. Throughout the day the paths that connect it to the village are full of women and children carrying the precious liquid( that I, myself wouldn’t dare to drink without boiling for 10 minutes).
Men and women gather in large flocks along the river for bathing, washing clothes, children wading and swimming in great joy. It is the best place to gossip, to know the news, to discuss whatever is there to discuss, a finest place to make businesses... There are large angry quarrels and also there they make themselves beautiful ... peace .... It is a place to sing and dance whenever you feel like it... The river is the center of that world and not even the unlikely presence of mucunha (white woman ) alters the environment for more than a few minutes
