manzanar, cemetary

took a roadtrip this past weekend (thurs - sat) up the sierra nevadas with my friend kinije. i haven't been up there since i was a kid with my family and i've forgotten how amazing it is in that area of the united states. we stopped along many of the scenic locales and captured as much as we could. i'm vowing to go back again this year because there's just so much to take in. it's probably one of my new favorite places to travel to in california.

one of the places we went to was Manzanar, one of the 10 War Relocation Centers during the Japanese Internment. the stillness and quietness of the place truly makes you reflect on the mistakes of our country and the inhumanity of it all. i'm so glad i visited and got to see this place in person. you should too if you are ever on the 395 passing by. their exhibit in the auditorium is truly eye opening.

will share more photos later from: manzanar, bodie ghost town, mono lake, alabama hills etc.

block o' pork belly...anyone?

shot this for a client in early february. i haven't posted much professional work on flickr these days. not sure why...no time? i have a "styleshooteat" flickr account and i should really just start posting my professional stuff over there instead of here. so add me if you like. :)

the pork belly was cooked for about 12 hours i believe so it was like buttah. broke da mouth! and yes, i got to eat it. oh, i have such a hard job sometimes. hard because i'm still trying to work off the food i consume at these shoots. :p

chicken tail bun : gai mei bao

home

it's been awhile since i've posted food photos shot at home or actually any food photos at all!

i mentioned on twitter and facebook today that i was eating a "chicken tail bao" - i should have said "bun" because i think everyone misread and thought i was eating "chicken butt". :p

so i decided to shoot what a chicken tail bun is. i never call it that - i just literally translated the name from the cantonese name "gai mei bao". seriously. but it's the most awesomest bun consisting of a sweet bread filled with a mixture of buttery coconut paste inside and sprinkled with coconut and glaze on top.

omg, heaven!

i haven't had this for awhile now but my mom brought some for me and it was too good to not eat...half of it. i had to shoot it crosssection so you can see what i'm talking about.

also it's my first time really shooting fun food pics in my kitchen. like how the sparkles in my black granite counters are all bokehed!

the 39th year

happy 39th birthday to me. i've never been one of those women who won't reveal their age. i don't get why women do that. who cares if people know? i embrace my age but am feeling a bit =:o about turning 39. it's my last year in my 30's before the big leap to the next threshold. whenever it reaches a "9" year, it's always hard for some reason. maybe because i tend to really introspect on what i've done and especially not done in my life up to this point.

thanks for all the emails, bday wishes via facebook + twitter as well. <3 u all! thanks to those who were so kind to gift me something as well. u know who you are.

i also got a much needed haircut this week. i got it a lot more layered than usual and i curled it today a bit. will attempt a better job at it next time.

and yeah, i know my sign is backwards but i like it that way. i looked odd when i horizontally rotated it. haha.

heterochromia loveliness

i was shooting at a client's place awhile back and they had this BEAUTIFUL cat with two colored eyes. heterochromia is the official term. she was such a sweetie and let me snap photos of her while her parents were prepping food.

just wanted to share some feline love.
