Iveragh Peninsula, Co Kerry

This video is especially for Chris the winner of Aisling's famous Eyeball Quiz!! So ya, hmmm, while I was 'off' I took lots of pics as I travelled around Kerry taking in the sights (took a break from fieldwork one weekend to see outside Killarney National Park!), these are some shots from the Iveragh peninsula (hope I didn't spell that wrong!).

Some cool things I liked were;

The Chough, had the wrong lens on of course so it's fuzzy but it was the first time I saw one!

The drowned forest at Rossbeigh beach, google says "Submerged Forest - This feature is visible at low tide only. Prior to the ice age, a river flowed westwards from Kenmare, carving a deep valley between the Iveragh and Beara peninsulas. At that time, the trees (of which stumps remain today) would have been in an elevated position on the side of the valley, while sea levels were much lower. After the last ice age 20,000 years ago, the ice sheets melted and the sea level rose significantly, creating a drowned river valley (Ria) and covering the old forests. A good example of a submerged forest can be seen at Rossbeigh Beach, Glenbeigh" (Coincidently this beach is super long and I had my first beach horse canter, AMAZING!!!!)

The old GSWR railway viaduct, that was great fun, I seen a really old photo in the hostel I was staying in and I just had to get a similar pic which entailed trespassing and climbing and sinking in mud, but sooo worth it!

Also seen here are Pano's from Valentia Island with it's active slate quarry and grotto! Yup Our Lady appeared to me!

You may notice wing mirror, I thought the sign with "Kerry's most spectalular cliffs" quite amusing, how sad am I!
