Seven year old Juliette Mueswa eats her afterschool meal of sorghum porridge and plantain. Juliette lost both her parents to AIDS and she was adopted by Edith Nakafu through the organisation Help a Friend when she was four.
'I am a member of Help a Friend. One day I was told that there was a young girl whose parents had both died. I have a helpful heart and my older children had grown and left so i could take her. There are no problems being an older mother again with a young child. She helps at home with the cleaning and the cooking and I love her very much. I want to see her educated, trained and on a good course in life. She cant remember what life was like before we were together. She thinks of me as her grandmother'.
The Alliance has been working in Uganda since January 2005 to increase access to quality HIV services, including support for orphans and other vulnerable children (OVC).
