Reading is fun

Reading is fun by John-Morgan.
A shot from our backyard campout. Here, Aidan is reading stories about Fluffy the Guinea Pig. He really seems to like reading--a far cry from the start of first grade.

A lot of that in my opinion is how they suck the joy out of it in school. At least here ......I homeschool and have since she entered 1st grade .....it's not always "fun" but we've been "blessed" like more choices to personalize what she does. Here every book they have to test on a computer for reading scores and comprehension since kinder ......I think kids thus don't like to read knowing some test is going to follow each and every book they read. We made Dr. Suess part of our curriculum since he wonderfully invented words and I've taught her since an early age that there's political statements however in that ....we also just read the Junie B. series due to hilarity ..... she loves to read. She has just finished several bios on women in Renaissance Italy that 'goes with" history curriculum as high school sophomore and she's acing world history now because these bios tied it all together for her. Most children also have their own methods of learning which may or may not be how they are being taught, we call them "different forms of intelligence". Some are very visual and others are more audial and some are way kinetic. It all has to be combined at some point and they have to learn all methods but you cannot change a child and make them learn outside their own brain, it just does not happen.

I am way glad he is enjoying reading now. :D
