Christmas Tree by John-Morgan

Christmas Tree

An abstract of our Christmas tree. Shots like these are all over Explore this time of year. Thought I'd make one too.

Details: Tripod, 17-40mmL lens shot wide open to make circles instead of hexagons), intentionally out of focus.

The Vines in Winter by John-Morgan

The Vines in Winter

A view across the Napa Valley. The vines are now bare for the winter. It was a bit overcast with wispy clouds scooting by. The ground is really green right now after the rains. All the young grass is up. Quite a contrast between the vibrance of the grass and the bareness of the vines.

Details: Handheld, about an hour before dusk, wide-angle, +/- 1.66 EV, photomatix default hdr settings. Then some touch-up and saturation in Picasa.

Oak Trees in Winter by John-Morgan

Oak Trees in Winter

A lone oak on the top of Livorna Heights. Alamo, CA

There's 20" of snow forecast for Philly this weekend. But we don't get real winter here in Cali. The closest we get is when the oak trees lose their leaves. This is a big oak that live alone on a hill a little bit behind our property. I thought it was a good emblem of what California Christmas was like.

Detail: An hour before sunset. Handheld, 17-40L lens, +/-1.66ev bracketing. HDR: Default settings on Photomatix. Histo tuned with Picasa and saturated at 8%. Color cast moved a titch to blue.

Hope by John-Morgan

Hope

A card my son gave to me in hopes I get well. He cut out a heart and wrote on it: "Dear Dad, I hope you feel better soon. Love, Aidan"

I hope so too.

Two Flowers by John-Morgan

Two Flowers

These two flowers sort of drooped before the others. I took them out of the vase and decided to give them a fitting photo send-off.

Details:

I laid the flowers on Aidan's white "snack table". I then adjusted the exposure to just blow out the highlights. I added pure white edges to the shot to make them appear more abstract. The back flower is a DOF effect--no photoshop trickeration.

Tripod, 100mm macro lens, afternoon light, overexposed (intentionally)
