Photographers Not Welcome at Burger King

Photographers Not Welcome at Burger King by ahockley.
My office for my day job is across the street from a Burger King. It's not the healthiest of options, but I'll eat there occasionally. Last week I noticed this new sign on the door.

As a private business, Burger King is certainly welcome to set their own policies. But I have to wonder... are they that uptight about lawsuits that they're going to prohibit photography in a fast food restaurant. I doubt I would've been taking many gallery-worthy photos at my local BK, but their policy turns me off as a photographer and as a customer. I'd urge other photographers to choose alternate fast food instead of support a company that won't allow photography.

I think they are showing up on youtube too often as the victim of those knockoff Mc Donalds rap songs. Ide like to order a bunch of food and then roll up to the window with a camera and really see where their priorities are. This policy, or getting my money.

On a road trip with family on Saturday (July 12), we stopped at a Burger King in Georgia. Naturally, I took both my point-and-shoot Kodak and my Sony Handicam inside, both in my pockets. Since I'm the official family photographer and videographer, documenting stops like this on vacation are my job. So I snapped a few photos (no flash, of course, and I made sure no other people were visible in the photos except my family members) and even recorded a short video. When all was said and one, my family members stopped by the restrooms on the way out. I stepped outside to wait, where this guy (I'm assuming the store manager), opens the door and asks "Can I help you?" So I told him I was waiting for some people. Then, he quickly points to this small sticker attached to the door. Never before has anything like this happened to me, and quite frankly it was embarrassing and the guy was very rude about it all. When he pointed, he gave this angry look -- and having no idea that photography would even be banned in a public place like a fast-food restaurant, I said "ohhh, ok" Then the guy got loud and forceful saying, "NEVER again, got that?" Of course, I said "yeh" as he swung around and let the door slam behind him.

Nonetheless, Burger King will no longer be on my list of places to stop. The guy was extremely rude - would it have hurt him to smile or even carry more conversation than just pointing and yelling NEVER AGAIN??

What is Burger King hiding? This makes me 1) mad, and 2) curious. They must be up to NO GOOD to have this policy.

Burger King's dying anyway. The one by me sold out to a Roberto's. (Mexican food as eaten by genuine Mexicans, not the cheddar-infested gringo crap at Taco Bell)

Of course, Roberto's isn't big on spending money on renovations, I think they forced them to do a certain amount of repainting, but it still has this weird dead-Burger-King vibe to it.

Many fast food restaurants are absolutely filthy disgusting. It all depends on who owns the franchise.

Considering the number of E-coli, salmonella, and hepatitis complaints that get filed, my guess is that the restaurants are worried about customers using cameras to document health department complaints.

I just check. The BK in my town has the same sign. No harm, I am not worried about shortage of salt-covered lard. There are better places to eat.

Digital video wouldn't be considered "taping" now would it?

the reason bk put up those signs is because teens where going through the drive thrus, ordering food then throwing it at the employees and posting videos of it on you tube. (i am a burger king manager)

DAG314: That's too funny--do they really think someone who would THROW FOOD at an employee would obey a no-photo sign? If BK's higher management is that addled they're in worse trouble than I'd imagined.
