I LOVE THIS PICTURE. I have stolen it and
will use it repeatedly with credit to the
ever amazing Aheram. How hard would it be to
get a photo of To Alison Love from Iraq
written in the sand, with a peace symbol. I
will pay you in never ending love and
devotion

I like it. It tickles my sense of irony.

Yeah, I think it's an iconic image, something
peope think of with the USMC and full metal
Jacket.
Probably the ultimate in irony (apart from
it appearing on the side of a nuke!) :)

A friend of mine has asked me why have you
painted the peace icon on your hand......
why? because do you think that this war is
keeping peace? or the opposite and that peace
is a far mirage, but you still think it's
possible to get?

They've credited you, but I recognised it
as yours. Maybe a polite flickrmail may fix
that if you don't like it there. Yours is not
the only photo there, but it looks like a
'collection of stuff I like' by someone who
doesn't understand flickr rather than any
attempt to misrepresent ownership of the
images, to me.

Brock: I got a FlickrMail from him a few days
before. I am not too worried as it is
innocuous.
MCJR: You know, I have never seen "Full Metal Jacket." War
movies are not really my cup of tea.
Gareth Fisher: Falsene? Where is that?
A. Grace: A publisher is trying to get this photo as a
book cover on one of the books he is selling.
Some anti-Iraq/Bush/American thingie. (I told
him as long as he sends me a copy of the
book, it is fine with me.) Does that count?
Sarah.C: It does matter that you mean it. Thank you.
Pulker: To answer your question: it was on a whim
that this photo was made. I decided that a
peace icon would make an interesting contrast
to my full battle gear. It is like a
Roscharch test of sorts. Or the half-full.
half-empty glass. What do you think?

What do I think? well, as you've said, it
makes an interesting contrast: the peace icon
on the hand of a soldier... it gives me the
idea of a soldier who is no more sure about
the war.. he has painted the peace icon on
his hand and he's showing it while he's
checking if somebody is watching at him.. i
don't know if i've well explained my idea, it
would be easier in italian :P

Soldiers are most of the time the biggest
pascifists !!
Love this picture because of its
composition and lights and because of the
contrast what Jayel mentioned battle gear and
peacesign.., not because of its message.
The message isn't new to me

I like this pict.. I like it because it's not
a blatant "in your face" kind of
statement like "wooot ! he's a soldier
and he's pro peace yaddihyaddah".
No, it's more subtle..
First, duh, you're a soldier so the
"no to war" message is intriguing..
Second, the sign is discreet and hidden. Only
visible to people close enough to touch you..
It brings the subject down to a human
level.. War is on big scale, peace is one man
at a time.

To whom it may concern,
I am
currently producing a large concert that will
be broadcast across America and possibly
Europe. One factor in this show is visuals of
the world by ordinary people, looking through
face book it is very obvious that so many of
you have a great eye. We are looking for
photos that represent many aspects of modern
life such Love, Loss, Family War Nature etc.
So if you might be interested please send
your suggestions and interest to
voiceofhope2@gmail.com we would love to hear
from you.
Kind Regards,
Allen Doyle.

Thank you; this is an amazing picture. It is
incredibly ironic that we wage war in order
to make peace....I used this image for a
painting that I entered for a scholarship; I
hope you don't mind. I added an american flag
in the background only because it is for a
patriotic scholarship; when I get it back I
am going to paint over it because I think it
takes away from the message of the painting.
You can view the painting if you want; it
should be pretty easy to find because it's my
only photo on here. Thanks again!

Since you seem to be okay with borrowing, I'm
nabbing this one for a Facebook pic. If
that's any problem, just let me know! What a
moving picture. Reminds me of that bumper
sticker... "It will be a great day when
our schools get all the money they need and
the military has to hold a bake sale to buy a
bomber." :)
